A lawyer named Joseph Tacopina used to work for former President Donald Trump. On Monday, he said he would no longer be defending Trump in a criminal case in Manhattan related to claimed hush money payments and a separate appeal in a civil case. In two of Trump’s current court fights, Tacopina has chosen to step down from his role. Regarding a secret money payment to a porn star before he became president in 2016, Trump is accused of lying in a state criminal case about having changed business records. In an email to Reuters, Tacopina stated that he was pulling out.

An earlier story from The New York Times said that Tacopina had indeed dropped out of the two cases.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and he is likely to go to trial this year, though the exact date is still unknown.

And Tacopina will no longer be Trump’s lawyer in the appeal of the civil case made by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused him of rape. This was confirmed by Tacopina, who said he would not be handling Trump’s legal issues related to the $5 million award made to Carroll by a jury in May. Even though the jury found Trump guilty of sexual attack and libel, Trump still says he is innocent in that case.

The 2024 campaign has begun, and the first votes have been cast in Iowa. Trump’s law team has changed. Trump is changing lawyers because he is seen as the front-runner in the Republican presidential race.

Joseph Tacopina, who is known for being on television news and defending famous people like rapper Meek Mill, former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is engaged to Donald Trump Jr., has chosen to handle some of Trump’s court matters himself. After Tacopina quit, Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung talked about how strong Trump’s present legal team is, saying they are the most experienced and skilled and ready to take on any court battle.

Tacopina is the latest of Trump’s lawyers to quit working on issues that are still going on. This change happens at the same time as the legal changes that happened after Trump was charged in June. At least three members of his Florida legal team quit. The charges were about keeping national security papers after Trump left office without permission.
