According to a scientific study released on Friday, Marco Aquino recently revealed that the mysterious “alien mummies” that showed up at Lima’s airport in October have roots that are completely on Earth. Initially thought to be from another planet, these small beings were later identified as lifelike dolls made from a mix of human and animal parts, as experts described at a press meeting in Lima. A three-fingered hand thought to be from Peru’s Nazca area was also looked at, but scientists found no evidence of alien life.

“They’re not aliens,” said Flavio Estrada, a historian who works for Peru’s Institute for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences. These are basically dolls made from real animal bones that were put together with modern manufactured glue. Then he said the whole story was made up, putting extra emphasis on how fake it was.

The two figures were found in a cardboard box in the offices of shipping company DHL at Lima airport. They were made to look like dead bodies dressed in traditional Andean clothes. Some news sites were fascinated by the strange look and thought there might be a link to aliens.

In September of last year, a Mexican government meeting showed off two very small preserved bodies with long heads and three-fingered hands, which got a lot of attention from the media. Jaime Maussan, a Mexican writer and UFO fan, said that these bodies, which were found in Peru in 2017 and were thought to be around 1,000 years old, were not from any known species.

Following careful examination, many experts eventually came to the conclusion that the objects were most likely fakes—possibly a mix of old human mummies that had been manipulated and animal parts that were clearly from Earth. At the press meeting in Lima last Friday, which was put together by Peru’s culture ministry, the experts didn’t say that the dolls found at the DHL office were linked to the bodies on display in Mexico. They made it clear that the specimens found in Mexico, which had been ruled out as coming from other planets, were also thought to have come from Earth.
